Matador Fire with Jarryd McNeil

He put a Wildfire Defense System on the farm.

He was away with Nitro Circus. His family had to leave the farm. He flew home.

The plan on the ground was water in totes. Water is not a plan once you have to go.

This year he put a Wildfire Defense System on the property instead.

Water and retardant

Water only works while it is wet.

Wind-driven embers land on eaves and decks. Water helps only while it is wet. Heat dries it fast. You are supposed to have already left.

Water

Works while it is wet. Needs a person and pressure. Evaporates in wildfire heat. You cannot stay to keep spraying.

Long-term retardant

Keeps working after it dries. It treats plants and wood so they are harder to ignite. Stays active through about 3 cumulative inches of rain. You spray, then you leave.

The system

50 gallons of retardant sit at your home.

50 gallons of non-toxic, long-term fire retardant, a pump, and 100 feet of hose, installed at your home.

Installed, inspected, and refilled on a regular cycle as part of the subscription.

Most homes are covered by one to three barrels, depending on the property.

01

Eaves

Hit eaves and overhangs first. Embers collect there.

02

Base

Spray where the wall meets the ground around the house.

03

Decks

Cover decks and other flat wood. Then plants next to the house.

04

Leave

You are done. Spray, then leave. If you are not home, a neighbor who knows the plan can spray for you. A gas pump can still run when the grid is down.
