How to Choose a Wildfire Defense Company in Los Angeles (2026)

Fire season in LA doesn't really end anymore. If you're looking into wildfire defense for your home, you have more choices than you did a few years ago: roof sprinklers, gel and foam services, private crews, and retardant systems. Here's how to compare them, using the same checklist we use on ourselves.

The checklist

What to look at, and how much it counts

  • 25%

    Real reviews

Google ratings from actual clients, not quotes on the company's own site.

  • 20%

    Local experience

How many homes they've done near you, and whether they know your brush and terrain.

  • 20%

    Red flag day plan

Who does the work when a fire is coming. Is it you, a crew, or a system that's already in place?

  • 15%

    Clear pricing

A written price, install included, before you sign.

  • 10%

    Upkeep

Does anyone come back to check the equipment?

  • 10%

    The product

What's in the tank, and who makes it.

Our approach

Matador Fire

We set up a Wildfire Defense System at your home. Each unit holds 50 gallons of long-term fire retardant and comes with a gas or electric pump and 100 feet of kink- and puncture-resistant hose. You spray the plants and brush around your home before a fire gets close, and we show you how before we leave.

We come back twice a year to check the system, and hands-on training is there if you want it. A Wildfire Defense System is one layer of defense, alongside clearing brush and hardening your home.

Install is $399. If you're away, or you'd rather not do it yourself, we can send firefighters to get your system ready ahead of time.

Our mission at Matador Fire is to help make wildfire defense safe, effective, and affordable so homeowners can live more comfortably in high-risk fire zones.
